Back when I was filming for the trailer Dan and I had some ideas for the magazine front cover and how I could portray the 'split' between the main character.
One of our first ideas was to show the two sides of the ego standing back to back.
So, this and this...
became this:
and then this:
and then this...
and that. (personally, I really dislike the last one there, eugh)
And then I had this idea...
I thought this idea was good for 'teasing' the audience with the character identity. This would be useful if I was having a major star play the character, as it might keep the audience guessing who it was who was being signed for the movie...
And this just lead onto this:
as an idea for a nice and simple promo poster, but I decided that ultimately it was too weak really. Despite that, I do like the monochrome two-tone feeling of it. Black and white also suggest light and dark, or good versus evil, perhaps?
Idea number 2 was a bit more simple, and I put a lot less thinking into it, but....
Started off with the idea of the character looking at himself in the mirror, but it being a different reflection looking back at him. I think this might have been a bit ambitious (especially with my photo editing skills), but we managed to come up with this:
and then with soem cropping and fiddling I made this:
and then turned it monochrome, just to see if that made it any better...
And, in my opinion, it didn't. And so, the idea was abandoned.
Something else I made and didn't get anywhere with...
I do quite like this, but I can't see how it would fit in anywhere well. Sighh.

i really love the blank faced promo poster, but agree that it's doesn't have enough on it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you've included these ideas - it shows the thought process and decisions that have to be made.
ReplyDeleteI like the ones where Dan is in black and white; it sort of looks like a wanted poster and really shows the contrast between the two of them. Why not try it where the evil one is black and white, and the good Dan is in colour, just to see what that looks like?
ReplyDeleteThe black and white one where he has no face is great but I think it looks more like a CD cover.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea actually, Ron. I doubt my photoshop skills are up to the job though, and I'm guess I'm done with the poster/magazine cover now...
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I think you're right with the no face one - Have you ever seen the artwork for Reservoir Dogs? It kinda reminds me of that...

Oh yeah, it does look like it.
